Motherhood + Fitness

Let’s face it, motherhood is not easy. Add in trying to take care of yourself to the mix and you are certainly in for a great challenge.

I am a mother of five. I homeschool my children part time and run my business. My children are involved in sports and other things as well as attend a hybrid school two days a week. I 100% understand when I say I get that time is like a vapor when the day’s are just blowing by and you are doing all the things.

Fitness is often times the last thing on a mother’s mind. It requires being a bit more “selfish” with our time, doing it tired, and showing up and rearranging our schedules even when we think we have not a single more ounce to give. The thing is, it is absolutely NOT selfish. Its necessary.

You’ve heard it a million times… you cannot pour from an empty cup. I am repeating it to you again, because we are humans. Humans need to hear and see and hear and see again over and over because that is our nature. Just as children need told a million times, so do us adults. It truly is true though. I personally believe with my whole being that mothers are the ones that REALLY need to focus on themselves a little because we have so much on our plates at all times. We cannot pour from empty cups.

Taking the time to focus just a short amount of time on yourself a day is absolutely vital if you want to feel good, keep your energy, keep your healthy FOR YOUR CHILDREN above all else. They deserve a healthy mother just as you deserve to be the healthy woman you were created to be. There truly is nothing better than feeling good.

staying active and fit after motherhood is PROVEN to improve your mood, your energy, and your cardiovascular health. It also reduces the risk of postpartum depression and helps you recover post birth.

I know from experience making time for fitness in motherhood requires a lot. You just have to find what works for you. It may not look like what works for others. It is not about what everyone else is doing. You have to be in it for YOU. A huge myth I work through with many of my mother clients is the fact they think they must work out SO much. Did you know the statistics show you really only need to be resistance training 3-5 times a week. You absolutely can see results in 3 days a week even. You do not need to be spending hours of cardio either. Many women really have been led to believe that, so they KNOW that is not possible for their schedule and already give up in their mind. It begins in the mind. It is all about mindset, so there is no way change will happen when that occurs.

Like stated above, you really only need a few days a week. You do not need a much time in those days either. You can get a really good workout in, in under an hour. Really 30-45 mins. And the days you need to REALLY push it, you can get it done in 20-25 mins. Do not tell me you do not have that time. You do. And it is worth allocating the time for it.

Not only are you going to function better, your children are getting the gift of a mother who takes care of herself, AND they see it being played out. They are much more likely to fall in the same footsteps and take care of themselves when they see their parents set the example for that. What more could a mother want? Healthy people create healthy families. It is a trickle down effect.

SO, this is your reminder. Motherhood does not stop or hinder your fitness journey. THOUGH it is TOUGH as ever and it becomes a huge challenge, take the challenge. It is worth it. You will thank yourself. You will be a better version of yourself.

Here’s your challenge mama:

-Aim for half your body weight AT LEAST in water daily

-Aim to up your protein. GET THAT PROTEIN IN!

-Start small. Progress is progress. Start by working out 3 days a week for even just 25 mins each session. Progress up to 5 days.

-Try to get quality sleep. I know you are laughing right now. Trust me, I get that. Aim for as close to 8 hours as you can get. I know with littles that feels so nonexistent for most of us mamas.

-Get the kids involved in the workouts too, if they are old enough.
